Yui Suzuki

Yui Suzuki, Ph.D., currently provides freelance developmental editing services to academic authors. Her subject areas include art history and related fields in the arts and humanities, particularly in topics concerning Japanese studies, East Asian studies, Buddhist studies, Contemplative Pedagogy, and Mindfulness in Higher Education. She is a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association.

Besides her work as an editor, Yui is an independent scholar and regular lecturer for the Smithsonian Associates World Art History certificate program. She is the author of Medicine Master Buddha: The Iconic Worship of Yakushi in Heian Japan (Brill, 2012), as well as numerous peer-reviewed articles.

Yui holds a B.A. in Religion and Philosophy and M.A. in Asian Studies from Sophia University, in Tokyo, Japan. She earned a Ph.D. in Art History from the University of California, Los Angeles. She was Associate Professor in the Department of Art History and Archaeology at the University of Maryland, where she taught from 2006-2017, and also served as Director of Undergraduate Studies from 2014-17. She remains a distinguished affiliate of the university.
